You have to pay about ?20 to join the festival. This entitles you to one coaching session and one river tour. Cheers, I tried to jump through the hoops to get assessor status a year or so ago (before foot and mouth) but I found it impossible to even find an assessor training day, let alone courses I could help out on. The long boat Vs short boat technique arguement.... not really an arguement in my mind, for example the star tests do call for an efficient forward paddling technique - with the recent development of short boats the techniques for producing an efficient forward paddle stroke is different - not right or wrong, just different - from that needed from a longer boat. I think it is up to the coach to be able to demonstrate an efficient forward paddle stroke in a variety of crafts, and more importantly to understand why, for example, sitting in an upright posture in a longer boat is more efficient for the forward paddle stroke whereas slightly leaning back in a shorter boat produces a more efficient forward stroke? :evil Myself I use a Perception Method Air, very similar to an Inazone 242. I have a very low volume playboat (Amp) which has seen plenty of river action (inc. grade 5), but as I get older and wiser the notion of extracting my feet from a numb position tightly wedged between the decks whilst pinned under a siphon...becomes oddly less appealing. Comfort and safety are becoming more important to me (too late for my deformed feet).
